There are 4 panels.
PANEL 1:It is daytime on a windy beach with dark, foamy waves and abundant vegetation: leafy bushes and tall grasses swaying in the breeze. It resembles the beach at the end of chapter 4. The land slopes downwards towards the sea, with a rustic boardwalk of a few wooden planks across the sand marking the path, ending at a humble gateway indicated by two wooden posts, where the tidal zone begins. Along the sides are areas of ground covered with stone tiles partially covered in sand, and adjacent to them are rectangular brick benches with cement surface. Against one side of the bench are Mako and Gus's leather backpacks. They are sitting on opposite sides, facing in different directions; Gus towards the sea, and Mako with his back to him, reading a small notebook.
PANEL 2:Mako is sitting comfortably, leaning part of his weight on one hand, which rests back on the bench. With his other hand, he holds the notebook almost resting on his lap, reading silently. Gus is leaning forward with his elbows on his thighs, smoking a cigarette while gazing out to the sea. He isn't wearing his jacket, rather it is barely covering his back, with his arms peeking out from underneath.
PANEL 3:Mako remarks, curiously examining the notebook: “Frederic’s notes are rather succinct. I believe I could read it all in one afternoon”.
PANEL 4:Mako turns his head, expectant, to look at his companion, who straightens up and rests the hand holding the cigarette on the bench, chuckling to himself. He looks to the side, holding the smoke in his mouth. The exaggerated shoulder pads of his jacket stand out.
